My first photography outing for 2018 was the Tournament of Roses’ Showcase of Floats. After work, I hurriedly went home to grab my cameras, then my nephews and I took the train to Pasadena.
The Tournament of Roses also known as the Rose Parade is held in Pasadena on New Year’s Day or January 2, (if New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday). The main stars of the parade are the elaborately designed, flower-covered floats. This year’s theme was Making A Difference. After the parade, the floats are put on display and for a fee, people can see them up close.

We spent about 20 minutes looking at the aircraft display outside Hill Aerospace Museum. We were pressed for time and needed to get back on the road again. I could only manage to shot a few frames.
Color photos were taken with Cosina Voigtlander Bessa R4M and Color Skopar 21/F4 on Rite Aid Color film ISO 400 (expired). Black and white photos were taken with Leica M6 and Summicron 50/F2 on Kodak BW400CN (expired).
We stopped by Jackson Hole, Wyoming on our way to Salt Lake City. We saw Grand Teton as we made our way into the city center. We had a quick lunch and checked out some of the shops nearby the restaurant. After an hour and a half, we’re back on the road again.

During the first week of September, I had the opportunity to travel with my family. We went on a week-long road trip, making stops in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, and Wyoming. First stop was Moab, Utah and a quick visit to Arches National Park. Our time was limited and we went on a short hike to the Delicate Arch viewpoint trail. Although the lower viewpoint is quite far away from the Delicate Arch, it still had an amazing view and the trail featured a lot of beautiful red rocks.
